I have the full version of Sunny Came Home if you would like. She is originally from South Dakota and remains a great inspiration for me. She won a Grammy for her debut Album “Steady On” in 1989 for Best Contemporary Folk Album. In 1996, Colvin released her album A Few Small Repairs and, in 1997, her single 'Sunny Came Home' spent four weeks at the number one spot on the Adult Contemporary chart. Colvin has referred to the song as a "murder ballad," indicating that at least one arson attack had a fatal outcome.” Shawn Colvin is an American singer song writer and winner of Three Grammys. From Wikipedia: The song tells the story of a woman named Sunny, returning to her hometown from (presumably) imprisonment or institutionalization, who burns down the homes of her enemies ("Sunny came home with a list of names") to avenge past offenses, real or imagined ("Sunny came home with a vengeance.") The title of the song comes from the opening lyrics. It’s about a woman burning down the houses of her enemies. Awesome acoustic riffs Shawn Colvin Won the Grammy for best song and also for the best album “A Few Small Repairs”. We were just in a great space.Grammy Winning song “Sunny Came Home” by Shawn Colvin This song belongs in three categories 1. There was a real sense of ease and freedom and no rules. We’re not going to worry about the radio. John and I were like, what the hell, we’re just going to make a record we like and turn it in. There were a couple things on those previous records where I made concessions in the production and stuff like that. In Sunny Came Home by Shawn Colvin, Sunny symbolizes someone whos been oppressed or put down for so long that shes finally decided to come home to. We didn’t think we were not pop or worthy, but in the previous three records there’d been attempts by the record company to put out singles and cross our fingers and hope they went somewhere, and they didn’t. When we made that record, we’d kind of written off the idea of having radio-friendly songs. In the 11th hour, “Sunny Came Home” was really barely there-in fact I think I had it as ‘Jimmy Came Home’ at one point before I’d written the lyric to “The Facts about Jimmy” I looked at this cover and I thought, you need to write a story about this woman on the cover who’s got a lit match and a big fire in the background. I just liked Julie Speed’s work and I really wanted something different rather than a photo. The inspiration behind that story came from the painting that I chose to be on the cover of the record.
